Well, my wife Carol and I have finally gave in to the reality that we have got to do something about our weight and health. If we don't start now, in 5 to 10 years we're going to have major problems. So we have a plan to watch what we're eating on a daily basis and to walk at least 30 minutes a day. We're making sure we get enough water, fruits and veggies, protein, milk and calcium etc... all limiting our calorie intake and checking it off as we eat each different types of food. Our goal is to lose 1-2 lbs a week and 52 pounds by next year. I'd appreciate your prayers. So far we're doing pretty good.
Did you know that the Bible talks about diet and exercise when it relates to Christian growth? Listen to this in Deuteronomy 8:3 (New King James Version) So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD. Jesus made reference to this scripture when He said in Luke 4:4 (New King James Version) But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’” Job 23:12 (New King James Version) I have not departed from the commandment of His lips;I have treasured the words of His mouth, More than my necessary food. Are you feeding enough on God's word and obeying what you read? Does your diet consist of nutritious meals of God's holy scripture? 1 Peter 2:2 (New King James Version) says, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby... Just as we need nutritious food for the health of our physical bodies, we need to feed on God's word for the health of our souls. However, if all you do is eat physical food throughout the day and not exercise, you will get fat and become unhealthy. Obesity is a major problem today, not just in my own life but in millions of Americans today. Why? Because we don't balance our life with the proper amount physical food and exercise proportionate to our stature. In the same way, if you are just feeding on God's word and are not exercising what you've read and learned and are not applying what you read to your life, you'll become an unfruitful, spiritually fat Christian who hides his talents. You'll become like that person in 2 Timothy 2:7 who's always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. You will die on the vine. Jesus said in John 15:6, (New King James Version) If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. Hebrews 5:14 (New King James Version) But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is,those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Psalm 1 (New King James Version)
1 Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree.
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
