Why I Fish For Men by Ed Soto
1. If I am a true follower of Christ, it is expected of me. Mark 1:17 - And Jesus said unto them, Come after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
2. Jesus commands me to. Mark 16:15 - And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. OBEDIENCE
3. I'm concerned for their life and my conscience constrains me to. It would be unkind and unloving not to warn someone of their impending doom and not to show them a way out if you knew the way out of danger. Common sense and decency. It's just the right thing to do.
James 4:17 (New King James Version) Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.
4. Because God wants me to and I want to please Him. God wants laborers in the field because the harvest is white and ripe for the picking. Luke 10:2 - Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest. John 4:35 – Don't say, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
5. The fear of God constrains me to. Proverbs 24:11-12, If you forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If you say, Behold, we knew it not; does not he that ponders the heart consider it? and he that keeps thy soul, does not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works? 2 Corinthians. 5:10-11, For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. In the Amplified Bible: For we must all appear and be revealed as we are before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive [his pay] according to what he has done in the body, whether good or evil [considering what his purpose and motive have been, and what he has achieved, been busy with, and given himself and his attention to accomplishing]. Therefore, being conscious of fearing the Lord with respect and reverence, we seek to win people over [to persuade them]. But what sort of persons we are is plainly recognized and thoroughly understood by God, and I hope that it is plainly recognized and thoroughly understood also by your consciences (your inborn discernment).
